About Fit Minded
Fit Minded is a strategic applied science firm for digital health companies, integrating scientific research with business strategy to drive growth, boost revenue, and build credibility. We work with clients at every stage, some starting from scratch, others scaling existing research, helping them turn science into competitive advantage. Our team is composed of experienced scientists who thrive in fast-paced, high-stakes environments where research directly influences product decisions, funding rounds, and company trajectories. Learn more at fit-minded.com

The Work Environment
This isn’t an academic research role, but it’s not a standard industry role either. You will work across a number of clients simultaneously, each at different stages of scientific maturity, each in different areas of digital health, each with distinct business priorities. Nothing is cut-and-paste here. Every client requires you to learn their product, understand their competitive landscape, and translate their business goals into rigorous science. You will context-switch constantly and you’re expected to get up to speed quickly without sacrificing scientific rigor.

This role is rooted in our values—Courageous Ownership, Balanced Excellence, Fearless Innovation and Clear & Accountable. You’ll be expected to take initiative, make thoughtful judgment calls, and move work forward even when things aren’t fully defined. We value proactive, ongoing communication and trust you to problem-solve first, then share your approach. You’ll also be navigating shifting priorities in a fast-moving environment, so adaptability, curiosity, and comfort with variety are key. If you’re energized by that kind of pace and want your work to directly shape how multiple companies grow, you’ll likely thrive here. This role requires 3+ years of industry, startup, or consulting experience. Note – Academic, postdoctoral, and government research positions do not meet this requirement, regardless of research quality or publication record. If this describes your background exclusively, please do not apply.

The Position
We are seeking a Research Scientist who brings established industry research experience and is ready to grow into independent client leadership within 6 to 9 months. You already know how to design studies, analyze data, and publish. What you’ll learn here is how Fit Minded does it: our proprietary needs assessment and science map methodology, and how to apply it across clients with different products, health domains, and business pressures.

Your onboarding is structured in three stages:

  • Months 0–3: Work alongside our Senior Research Scientists on active client engagements. Learn the needs assessment and science map process by contributing directly to it, and own defined project components from the start.
  • Months 3–6: Co-lead client engagements with Level 3 oversight. Run client meetings, drive study design and analysis decisions, and take primary responsibility for deliverables.
  • Months 6–9: Independently own multiple client engagements end-to-end, with Level 3 support on strategy and escalation.

Advancement is based on demonstrated readiness, not time in role. Scientists who show independent client readiness earlier move faster. We’re looking for someone who wants to build a long-term career with Fit Minded and grow toward senior scientific leadership.

What you’ll build here is hard to replicate elsewhere. You’ll gain hands-on exposure to a breadth of digital health companies, research problems, and business contexts — working simultaneously across clients at different stages of scientific maturity, in different health domains, with different product and funding pressures. That breadth accelerates your development as a scientist and strategist in ways a single-lab or single-company role rarely does. Our scientists publish, present, and build track records that span industries. If you’re motivated by variety, ownership, and the chance to watch your science directly shape how companies grow, this is the right environment.

How You’ll Contribute
As a Research Scientist, your core responsibilities include:

  • Lead the design and conduct research studies including randomized controlled trials (RCTs), from literature review and conceptualization through IRB submission, data analysis, and interpretation. You’ll make methodological decisions independently and communicate progress without being prompted.
  • Communicate research findings to executives, product teams, and other non-scientific stakeholders, translating results into clear recommendations that inform product and business decisions.
  • Develop statistical analysis plans matched to research questions; implement data analysis using R, including for large, complex datasets with repeated measures; document analytic approach and decisions with scientific justification. When you encounter methodological decisions (e.g., covariate selection), you will use available resources to make informed choices and document your reasoning.
  • Lead manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and contribute to scientific presentations, white papers, or reports. This includes coordinating with co-authors to meet deadlines.
  • Lead client engagements end-to-end by months 6–9, applying our needs assessment and science map methodology to translate client business goals into research strategy.
  • Collaborate with lead scientists on research aligned with broader strategic goals, contributing to proposals, publications, and innovation initiatives. Collaboration here means proactive communication, not waiting to be asked for updates.

We need someone who:

  • Can define their own path forward from a business problem. You won’t be handed a research agenda or a fully scoped protocol. Client goals are the starting point, and you’re expected to translate those into rigorous science independently. If you’ve only worked within a pre-defined research program, this will be a significant adjustment.
  • Communicates proactively with clients including progress and blockers.
  • Takes initiative when problem-solving (tries multiple approaches, uses resources, doesn’t freeze when something is unclear)
  • Moves fast without sacrificing quality (tight timelines are standard, not exceptions)
  • Is socially aware and collaborative (you don’t need to be extroverted, but you do need to read the room, coordinate effectively, and engage professionally with clients and teammates)

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in Behavioral Health, Clinical Psychology, Health Psychology, Public Health, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-degree experience conducting research in an industry, startup, or consulting environment; digital health or health technology is a must. Academic research, postdoctoral positions, and government roles do not satisfy this requirement.
  • Demonstrated experience presenting research to non-scientific stakeholders (e.g., executives, product, marketing) and influencing product or business decisions.
  • Experience in behavior change research with strong interest in both mental and physical health
  • Experience leading or co-leading randomized controlled trials (RCTs) including protocol development, recruitment, and data collection
  • Strong proficiency in conducting advanced quantitative analyses using R or similar statistical software
  • A strong track record of publishing research in peer-reviewed journals
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to solve problems, work independently and collaboratively

Preferred Qualifications

  • Consulting or multi-client experience
  • Mentoring or supervising junior scientists
  • Familiarity with regulatory evidence pathways (DTx/SaMD).
  • Familiarity with AI tools for workflow optimization and strategic applications
  • Expertise in data collection methodologies (survey design, longitudinal tracking, mixed-methods)
  • Experience writing Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols
  • Experience running RCTs at scale, including large-sample recruitment, multi-site coordination, and adherence to trial protocols.
  • Ability to efficiently gather and synthesize information through scientific literature and market reviews
  • High-level proficiency in qualitative research (interviews, thematic analysis)
  • Comfort working remotely while maintaining regular, proactive communication with supervisors and teammates

If you’re energized by that kind of pace and want your work to directly shape how multiple companies grow, you’ll likely thrive here. We welcome postdoctoral scientists, and we’re direct about what this requires. Strong candidates from academic settings have already driven work without a PI setting the agenda, whether by leading projects end to end, managing several at once, or partnering with industry. If that describes you, the Associate period is designed to build the rest.

The Position
We are seeking an Associate Research Scientist with a clear path to Level 2 within one year. You will work alongside our Level 2 and Level 3 Research Scientists on client projects, learning our proprietary needs assessment and science map process while steadily taking on more client-facing responsibilities. At Level 2, you will work independently with clients, directly influencing product, clinical, and business decisions and contributing to innovation in digital health.

This is a mutual investment. The Associate period is a structured development period at $90,000, with a salary increase upon promotion to Level 2, reflecting demonstrated independent client readiness, typically within 9 to 12 months. Advancement is based on demonstrated readiness, not time in role. We’re looking for someone committed to building their career with Fit Minded long term.

How You’ll Contribute
As an Associate Research Scientist, your core responsibilities include:

  • Design and conduct research studies including randomized controlled trials (RCTs), from literature review and conceptualization through IRB submission, data analysis, and interpretation under the guidance of Level 2 & 3 Research Scientists. You will be expected to take direction, apply it independently, and communicate progress without being prompted.
  • Develop statistical analysis plans matched to research questions; implement and document analyses using R, SPSS, or similar tools. When you encounter methodological decisions (e.g., covariate selection), you will use available resources to make informed choices and document your reasoning.
  • Prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and contribute to scientific presentations, white papers, or reports. This includes using templates correctly, meeting deadlines, and coordinating with team members on their sections without needing reminders.
  • Assist Level 2 and Level 3 Research Scientists with client projects, learning to apply our needs assessment and science map methodology. You will be expected to problem-solve when instructions are incomplete and communicate your approach.
  • Collaborate with lead scientists on research aligned with broader strategic goals, contributing to proposals, publications, and innovation initiatives. Collaboration here means proactive communication, not waiting to be asked for updates.
  • Progress toward independent client engagement, including attending meetings and leading project components as you advance toward Level 2.

We need someone who:

  • Can define their own path forward from a business problem. You won’t be handed a research agenda or a fully scoped protocol. Client goals are the starting point, and you’re expected to translate those into rigorous science independently. If your work has mostly been within a PI’s predefined research program, show us where you drove decisions yourself.
  • Communicates proactively (e.g., end-of-day updates on what you’re tackling next, flagging blockers before they become problems)

  • Minimum of 1 year experience conducting research in an industry, startup, or consulting environment; digital health or health technology strongly preferred. Experience during PhD or Postdoctoral positions will satisfy the requirement if the candidate demonstrates independent ownership of research, such as leading a study or major study component, managing multiple concurrent projects, collaborating with industry partners, or engaging directly with external stakeholders.
  • Experience in behavior change research with strong interest in both mental and physical health
  • Experience contributing to randomized controlled trials (RCTs) as part of a research team, including protocol development, recruitment, or data collection
  • Strong proficiency in conducting advanced quantitative analyses using R or similar statistical software
  • Experience with NIH grant writing and a track record of publishing research in peer-reviewed journals
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with AI tools for workflow optimization and strategic applications
  • Expertise in data collection methodologies (survey design, longitudinal tracking, mixed-methods)
  • Experience writing Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols
  • Ability to efficiently gather and synthesize information through scientific literature and market reviews
  • High-level proficiency in qualitative research (interviews, thematic analysis)
  • Strong independent work ethic with ability to collaborate effectively in a remote team setting
  • Comfort working remotely while maintaining regular, proactive communication with supervisors and teammates
  • Industry internship, consulting, or startup experience during or after graduate training

About Fit Minded
Fit Minded is a strategic applied science firm for digital health companies,  integrating scientific research with business strategy to drive growth, boost revenue, and build credibility. We offer tailored solutions that empower organizations to incorporate science into their operations, ensuring success in a competitive marketplace. Our team comprises experienced professionals dedicated to designing research studies that establish evidence and enhance visibility for our clients. At Fit Minded, we are committed to helping companies grow by integrating science into every aspect of their organization. Learn more at  fit-minded.com.

The Work Environment
This isn’t an academic biostatistics role, and it isn’t a standard industry analytics role either. You will support analyses across multiple client engagements at once. Each client is at a different stage of scientific maturity, works in a different area of digital health, and brings different data structures and business pressures. Product data is messy, samples are rarely what they first appear to be, and the claims clients want to make often outrun what the data can support. You’ll context-switch constantly and get up to speed quickly on new datasets without sacrificing rigor.

This role is rooted in our values: Courageous Ownership, Balanced Excellence, Fearless Innovation, and Clear & Accountable. You’ll be expected to make sound analytic judgment calls, document them, and move work forward without waiting for complete instructions. We value proactive communication and trust you to problem-solve first, then share your approach.

The Position
We are seeking a Research Data Scientist to serve as the analytic engine behind our science team. Reporting to our Research Scientist Manager,  you will partner with our PhD Research Scientists while they lead client engagements. You’ll shape study designs for analytic feasibility, build analysis plans, run the analyses, and turn results into accurate, defensible findings.

You won’t own client relationships. You will be the person who ensures every claim Fit Minded makes is supported by the data behind it. That means knowing when a pre-post change is clinically meaningful, when an engagement-outcome association is survivorship bias, and when an observational comparison cannot support the conclusion a client wants.

Your onboarding is structured in two stages:

  • Months 0–3: Learn Fit Minded’s data standards, analytic templates, and reporting workflow under the Research Science Manager. Own defined analyses on active engagements from the start.
  • Months 3–6: Own analyses end-to-end across multiple concurrent engagements, from analysis plan through results write-up, with Research Science Manager review on methods decisions.

How You’ll Contribute

  • Build analytic samples from product and study data. Apply inclusion criteria, construct cohorts, and document attrition with flow diagrams.
  • Characterize engagement and retention with appropriate metrics and distributions, including retention curves and time-to-event analyses of disengagement and response.
  • Evaluate change on validated outcome measures using paired tests, effect sizes, reliable change, MCID-based classification, and response and remission rates, with correct handling of baseline severity thresholds.
  • Model longitudinal and nested data using mixed-effects models with defensible time coding and random-effects structures. Diagnose missingness and apply multiple imputation with sensitivity analyses.
  • Run a priori power and sample size calculations for single-arm, two-arm, and longitudinal designs, with assumptions justified from the literature.
  • Pressure-test study designs and research questions with our scientists. Flag confounding, reverse causation, multiplicity, and analytic flexibility before they become problems, and separate confirmatory from exploratory findings.
  • Write analysis plans, methods, and results sections that meet CONSORT, STROBE, and TREND standards. Draft claims for investor and payer audiences that accurately reflect what the evidence supports.
  • Maintain reproducible workflows using scripted R analyses and version control. Document code and analytic decisions so another analyst can rerun any result end to end.

We need someone who:

  • Asks what question an analysis is answering before running it, and says so when the data can’t support the claim being asked for.
  • Manages competing requests from multiple scientists, sets realistic timelines, and communicates progress without being chased.
  • Documents decisions as they make them, not after.
  • Moves fast without sacrificing quality. Tight timelines are standard, not exceptions.
  • Is socially aware and collaborative. You don’t need to be extroverted, but you do need to explain methods clearly to scientists and non-scientists alike.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Statistics, Quantitative Psychology, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of post-degree applied analysis experience on health, clinical, or digital product data in industry, a CRO, a health system, or a research center. Graduate research assistantships do not satisfy this requirement.
  • Advanced proficiency in R, including mixed-effects models, multiple imputation, and survival analysis, with scripted workflows under version control (Git).
  • Experience analyzing change on validated outcome measures, including clinically meaningful change (RCI, MCID, response and remission).
  • Experience conducting a priori power analyses and writing statistical analysis plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate analytic results and limitations accurately to non-statisticians.
  • Co-authorship on peer-reviewed publications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Psychometric validation (CFA, internal consistency, measurement invariance, IRT).
  • Person-centered methods (latent class analysis, LCGA, growth mixture modeling).
  • Causal inference with observational data (propensity score methods, interrupted time series, difference-in-differences, regression discontinuity).
  • Mediation and moderation analysis tied to behavior change models.
  • Experience with digital health engagement or event-log data; SQL proficiency.
  • Familiarity with real-world evidence for payer or regulatory audiences.
  • Familiarity with AI tools for workflow optimization.
